Valentine’s Day Activities for Children
8th January 2018
As discussed in our other article this month, it’s OK for children to explore their feelings with a first crush, and a great way to help them focus on an appropriate way of showing this is to do some Valentine’s Day activities together. This month we have put together some fun craft ideas that both you and your child will enjoy making together. Simply choose your favourite and get started!
Beaded Heart Hanging Decoration
What you need:
- Craft wire
- Selection of beads
How to:
Step 1: job for the adult – bend the craft wire into a basic heart shape.
Step 2: select the favourite beads and thread them onto the wire. This can be done in a pattern, a random mix of colours or with just one colour – it really doesn’t matter which one you choose, all options will look nice.
Step 3: job for the adult – twist the ends of the wire and leave some excess to form a loop.
Heart Felt Cushion
What you need:
- 2 x pink sheets of felt
- Child-friendly glue
- Scissors
- Beads and sequins
- Needle and thread
- Cotton wool for stuffing
How to:
Step 1: draw around a heart template on each piece of felt.
Step 2: job for the adult – cut out these shapes so you have two hearts.
Step 3: job for the adult – do a running stitch around the edge of the hearts and sew them together, leaving a small gap so you can fill it with the stuffing.
Step 4: Fill the mini cushion with cotton wool.
Step 5: job for the adult – sew the gap shut.
Step 6: decorate the cushion with beads and sequins using child-friendly glue.
Love Heart Photo Frame
What you need:
- Selection of foam hearts in a variety of colours and sizes
- Small, lightweight photo frame without a stand
- Child-friendly glue
- Photo
- Card
- Magnet
- Double sided sticky tape
How to:
- Step 1: glue the love hearts around the edges of the photo frame – have some overlapping for a fun effect and allow it to set.
- Step 2: place the picture into the frame.
- Step 3: pop a drop of child-friendly glue onto the back of the frame and place a magnet on top. Allow to set.
